John Moore, Ph.D.

Professor John Moore, Ph.D., has served on the Olivet College faculty since 2014, and he teaches courses in psychology related to social life, culture, mental and physical health, and interaction. His research mainly focuses on the way psychological concepts such as empathy are achieved in social interaction, and he has published a number of journal articles and book chapters on how empathy, empowerment, and advice are managed in mental health settings.

Professor Moore earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in health psychology from the University of Derby (UK), and a master’s degree in social science research methods, and a doctorate in discursive psychology from Loughborough University (UK). He served as a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Nottingham (UK), working on a project that examined the work of a suicide prevention charity, and has also held faculty positions at the University of New Hampshire (Durham) and at the University of Wisconsin (Parkside).
