Phone: 269-749-7118

Professor Curt Ellis, MFA, joined the Olivet College faculty full-time in 2019 after serving five semesters as an adjunct instructor. He teaches graphic design courses in the Arts and Humanities Department. Professor Ellis aims to create a hands-on learning environment for students to gain real-world experiences before entering the workforce.

Professor Ellis has taught college-level graphic design courses for over 30 years, and he is an experienced designer himself, continuing to work for select clients. He has been married for over 35 years, and he is a proud father of four adult children. Professor Ellis especially enjoys Michigan’s four seasons, and he regularly draws inspiration from the natural environment.

“I think teaching art and design is best suited by providing visual examples; therefore, I hinge most of my lectures on demonstrations of how to create content for design problems and layout. How do you know that you have reached your creative potential on a particular design job? Teaching a creative objective process usually will aid designers in finding their own creative potential. I provide many hours in designing problems for students in order for them to learn this process and hone their own visual voice.

I have loved art and design for as long as I can remember. My passion is to see if I can light a fire of passion by encouraging students to fall in love with creating, working with their hands, solving complex visual problems and eking out a profession in graphic design. I love Olivet College because of the community of lifelong learners and the ability to pursue creative freedom within the classroom, which extends to the community.” — Professor Ellis
