Andrina Morence, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor of Social Sciences

Phone: 269-749-7649

Professor Andrina Morence brings extensive experience in psychology and criminal justice to her role as assistant professor of social sciences at Olivet College. Her passion for teaching developed when she recognized the influence she has to encourage students to live a healthy and safe lifestyle.

“My passion for teaching began when I taught DARE as an Ingham County deputy,” Professor Morence explained. “I provided substance abuse prevention programming for K-12 and guest taught alcohol abuse prevention to athletes at MSU. While teaching these subjects, I realized that I very much enjoyed making that connection between students and new ideas and knowledge, and wanted to become a college professor. I am very fortunate to be living my dream.”

Professor Morence has served the Ingham County Sherriff’s Office since 1996 in a variety of positions, including lieutenant and sergeant. In her roles, she gained extensive leadership skills, as well as a deep understanding of Michigan’s criminal justice system and the way it operates. She exceptionally enjoyed opportunities to teach students of all ages about drunk driving awareness, police procedure, alcohol abuse prevention, laws of arrest and more. She frequently served as a guest lecturer at colleges, high schools and middle schools across the state. These opportunities gave Professor Morence the push to pursue the next leg of her career journey in teaching, and in 2016, she began an adjunct position at Baker College instructing criminal justice courses. In her full-time faculty role at OC, Professor Morence will teach a variety of subjects, including criminal justice, sociology and psychology courses.

Professor Morence holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Siena Heights University, a Master’s Degree in Science Administration with an emphasis in leadership from Central Michigan University, and a Ph.D. in psychology from Capella University.
