Let’s face it, tackling a four-year college right out of high school can be intimidating. Many students choose to wade into college rather than diving in head first, and that’s okay! If you’re a student who is ready for the next step after a two-year college program, we welcome you to check out Olivet College! At OC, career planning is built in to every major, transfer student specialists are on hand to assist you, and 99 percent of students receive financial aid – with generous scholarships still available for fall 2016!
Summer Sunnock, pictured right, will be entering her senior year at Olivet College this fall. A Marshall native and Olivet High School grad, Summer knows this small town with a big heart as well as anyone else. She had the opportunity to dual enroll at Olivet College while in high school but decided to attend Kellogg Community College after graduating. “I didn’t exactly know what I wanted to major in after high school,” Summer said. “KCC was close to home and seemed like a good next step while I was discovering my passion.”
After two years at KCC, Summer was ready for the next phase in her plan, but a transfer seemed daunting. “I made a lot of connections at KCC with students and professors,” said Summer. “It was sad to say goodbye, but I was excited for the next step.” The faculty and staff at OC made a lasting impression on her. “I remembered how much time and effort the instructors put into helping the students succeed,” Summer said. In the fall of 2015, Summer became an OC student for her second time and is confident about her future.
At KCC, Summer decided to study business; after all, it is a very relevant topic to have knowledge about in today’s world. “I originally intended on switching my major once I got to Olivet,” Summer said. “But, the instructors at Olivet kept me interested in business, and I already had so many credits to transfer to the program; it just made sense to continue.” Summer says Olivet is making it possible for her to earn a degree in a high-demand industry while also allowing her to enjoy other life-enriching college courses such as ceramics, pictured below, religion and communication.
Summer says both faculty and staff largely contribute to the greatness of Olivet. “I’ve run into a few hang-ups and everyone is so easy to work with and willing to go out of their way to walk me through things!” said Summer. She even worked with enrollment specialists in admissions who made sure all of her credits transferred.
