The college will also confer an honorary degree to Doug Federau, retired insurance executive and Olivet College trustee, during the ceremony. He was also president, officer and member of Independent Insurance Agents of Michigan (now Michigan Association of Insurance Agents), Associated Insurance Managers and the American Association of Insurance Management Consultants, as well as several community organizations throughout the state of Michigan. Federau was a member of the Olivet College Insurance Advisory Committee since 1979, and was an advisory council member to several insurance companies, as well as the Michigan Insurance Commission. In 2010, he was named to the Olivet College Board of Trustees.

Prior to Saturday’s graduation ceremony, the college will host Baccalaureate at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 13 in the Olivet Congregational Church. Phil Reed, associate professor of criminal justice and director of campus safety, was chosen by the senior class to speak at Baccalaureate.
