Olivet College Athletic Director Ryan Shockey has announced that men’s bowling will take to the lanes beginning in the fall of 2016.

Launched on the heels of the success of the women’s bowling team, the men’s program will operate as an intercollegiate club program and offer scholarship opportunities for interested students.

“We are thrilled to announce the addition of men’s bowling to our growing athletic department,” Shockey said. “The success of our women’s program has illustrated a high demand for the sport, and we are happy to provide this new and exciting opportunity for Comet student-athletes.”

Students who are interested in participating can apply for a bowling scholarship, in addition to a number of various scholarships and financial aid packages.

According to Shockey, the college has launched a search for a head coach of both the men’s and women’s programs, as current women’s head coach Karine Walters has announced plans to step down prior to the fall 2016 season. M-66 Bowl of Battle Creek will serve as both teams’ home lanes.

“This is an excellent opportunity for students who want to continue bowling after high school while also getting the unique educational experience Olivet College provides,” Shockey said. “We are really looking forward to the addition of this team.”

Olivet College is an NCAA Division III member institution offering 25 intercollegiate sports programs. The Comets belong to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), the oldest intercollegiate conference in the nation.
